Vashlovani National Park (November 2023)

We got the necessary permission and entered the Vashlovani National Park.

What a place! It’s super beautiful!

We drove up a hill and had a beautiful view. In the permission office a lady recommended a specific track to drive down to the main camp.

This track got crazy off-roady. And it got smaller and smaller. So small that at some point Rosinante did not fit anymore on the track. I’d say this track would only maybe be possible with a cross bike.

So we turned around and took the main route to a beautiful camp at a river.

When we continued the next day, we saw very beautiful landscapes, did a hike in a cove and saw some gazelle running through the steppe.

The rainbow mountains and Overland Haven in Georgia (November 2023)

We continued on an off-road route in the direction of Vashlovani National Park. The short off-road track was nice and easy and we saw amazing landscapes and interesting old monasteries.

After the off-road track, we met again with Adela, Alvaro, Roxane and Vincent and together we went to the Overland Haven (see it on Google Maps).

Sarah and Grant were building up the Overland Haven after they came to Georgia from Australia.

Wippel-Woop-Woop-Wipke (aka Nora), a lovely and bit crazy German car traveler, was helping them building up the place.

We helped them installing water pipes and walls and at night we had a big, big Georgian dinner. All together and everybody had contributed something.

It was amazing and a lot of fun. And it was not the last time we would see Wippel.

Rosinante needs a recovery (June 2023)

Ani continued her journey and took the mountain pass we had taken before we met her.

Cindy and I wanted to go to a waterfall. On Google Maps the road leading there looked like a proper road. On Open Street Maps it looked different and a bit off-roady.

We decided to give it a try and quickly ended up in a famous off-road track. Rosinante did very well going up the small mountain on the very rocky track with a lot of stone steps.

Once we reached the upper part of the mountain, the track turned into a field of mud. Several cars already got stuck there and so did we with Rosinante. The first time, we managed to get her free on our own. The second time we asked somebody else to pull us out. After that we decided to park Rosinante at a nice spot and walk the rest of the way to the lake.

Suddenly while walking the track, Cindy recognized that she had lost her phone. We went back and looked hard for it. And we found it. It was just lying on a big metal pipe we had crossed before. And to both sides of the pipe there was water but the phone was just lying there in the only dry spot of the pipe. Several off-road cars must have crossed the pipe as well, but we just could pick it up again.

The lake was very beautiful and on the way there we saw one of the old UAZ Buchanka you can see often in Georgia. I love them.
